Demo

Waldron punch set by Carl McLaughlin

Carl brought in a Roden Pfalz DIIIa to demonstrate the Waldron punch and die set. He used it to replace external hatches and access panels which were removed while cleaning up the fuselage.

Notes on the Roden Pfalz DIIIa

  • Very delicate, but very detailed
  • Multiple decal markings, many very colorful.
  • Landing struts delicate - may need to replace with wire.

Useful Tips and Ideas

  • Punch set can be used to create round panels and hatches using thin plastic.
  • Can also be used to create instrument panels and dials.
  • Sizes range from very small to 1/4 inch range.

Writing Articles by Louis Armour

Louis had many useful ideas about getting articles published in modeling magazines.

Useful Tips and Ideas

  • Get magazine guidelines via mail, email to web site.
  • Smaller articles are easier to have published - anything from tips to multiple page articles. 750 - 2000 words.
  • Get good pictures and as many as possible.
  • Write out articles double spaced with images on page to go along with the text.
  • Include a photo description sheet.
  • Use a piece of tracing paper overlaid on photos to indicate location of arrows and such which need to be added by the magazine. Also, include rough sketch and info for any artwork they might need to create.
  • Good presentation materials, cover page, contents sheet, etc really helps.
  • Most magazines have submission meeting once a week or so. Rejections can come quickly but they sometimes hold onto articles they like for a long time.
  • If you use a digital camera, make sure it has 3+ megapixels. Daylight photos are best.
  • List any modeling sources/resources you used.
  • You may also need a photo of yourself and a short paragraph about you for the article.
