Display bases by Louis Armour

  • Rule of thumb - bases should be 2-3" bigger than the model.
  • Lacquer both sides of wooden bases to prevent warpage.
  • 'Marble' paint and fleck stone paint can be very effective.
  • Cardboard and foam core for creating elevation change, vertical elements, etc.
  • Use of a base and backboard can enhance appearance.
  • Mudrock for texture and building up mass.
  • A good way to mix celluclay - put a small piece in a zip lock bag with coloring and water and knead in the bag.
  • Old plaques and frames can be good bases.
  • Can be bought very cheaply.
  • Odd elements for things like the 20000 Leagues base....
